Creating a space for swimming, relaxation and entertaining
The brief for our Winstanley Wellness Project was to transform an unused grassed area of the garden into a beautiful, functional wellness space for the family and their friends to enjoy.
The vision was to create more than just a swimming pool. The finished space needed to combine contemporary design, practical engineering and luxurious wellness features, creating a private retreat that could be enjoyed throughout the year.
Our team worked to bring this vision to life, managing the project from the initial groundworks through to the installation of the swimming pool, supporting equipment and bespoke sauna.
Groundworks and pool installation
Every successful swimming pool project begins with careful preparation.
The first stage involved excavating the garden, removing the earth and carrying out the necessary groundworks. Trenches were then dug for the swimming pool services and pipework connecting the pool to its dedicated plant room.
At the heart of the project is a bespoke Flexline one-piece swimming pool, selected and configured around the client’s vision for the space.
The pool features a hidden automatic slatted cover, providing a discreet finish when the pool is not in use, alongside colour-changing LED lighting, modern fittings and beautifully designed steps that enhance both accessibility and appearance.
Together, these features create a contemporary swimming environment that combines everyday practicality with understated luxury.
High-performance pool engineering
While the finished pool creates the visual impact, the engineering behind it is essential to the long-term performance of the installation.
The dedicated plant room houses state-of-the-art swimming pool equipment, selected to support reliable operation, effective water management and efficient day-to-day running.
Heating is provided by an air source heat pump from Automated Environmental, helping maintain a comfortable swimming temperature while reducing energy consumption compared with less efficient heating approaches, depending on operating conditions.
By considering the pool’s technical requirements alongside the overall design, we created a system intended to deliver performance, reliability and a more energy-conscious approach to pool heating.
The NN sauna
To complement the swimming pool, we incorporated a striking NN sauna, introducing another dimension to the family’s home wellness experience.
The sauna features full-spectrum infrared panels, offering an alternative heat experience alongside the traditional benefits of taking time to relax and unwind. A dedicated separate shower adds convenience, while the architectural mirrored-glass exterior provides a sleek, contemporary appearance and additional privacy.
The sauna was carefully integrated into the overall scheme, ensuring that the pool and wellness facilities work together as one cohesive outdoor environment.
A private wellness destination at home
The completed Winstanley Wellness Project demonstrates how an underused garden can be transformed into a purposeful, beautifully designed space for family life, entertaining and relaxation.
By bringing together bespoke swimming pool design, considered engineering, energy-efficient heating technology and contemporary sauna facilities, we created a wellness environment tailored to the client’s vision.
We are delighted that the project has been shortlisted for the Northern Design Awards 2026, recognising the design and execution behind this transformation.
