Transforming a Dated Indoor Pool into a Contemporary Family Wellness Space
For this Cheshire family home, our team completely transformed an existing 10-metre indoor swimming pool, turning a dated and tired pool room into a sophisticated, contemporary space designed around family life.
The project demonstrates how an existing indoor swimming pool can be completely reimagined through thoughtful design, high-quality finishes and carefully considered upgrades, without the need to replace the entire pool.
During works
The Brief
The clients wanted to modernise their existing indoor swimming pool and create a more contemporary environment that could be enjoyed by the whole family.
A particular consideration was the clients’ children. The original pool did not provide the varying depths and easy access they wanted, so the refurbishment presented an opportunity to introduce bespoke steps and shallower areas into the pool design.
Alongside the pool refurbishment, the clients wanted to create a more luxurious and cohesive environment throughout the swimming pool room.
Building the new steps
The Indoor Pool Refurbishment
The existing pool was completely transformed with a new contemporary finish.
Large-format tiles were introduced both inside and outside the pool, creating a seamless and sophisticated appearance. The pool itself was retiled, while the surrounding areas were also upgraded to create a cohesive finish throughout the room.
The addition of bespoke steps was an important part of the design. Rather than simply providing access into the pool, the steps were carefully incorporated to create varying depths, allowing younger members of the family to enjoy the pool safely and comfortably while providing greater flexibility as they grow.
Feature Walls & Stretch Ceiling
The walls surrounding the pool were also redesigned. Feature tiling was introduced to the rear wall of the swimming pool, complemented by warm timber wall panelling elsewhere in the room. This combination of materials adds texture and contrast, creating a more luxurious residential feel.
A stretch ceiling was also installed, completing the transformation of the pool room and giving the space a clean, contemporary finish.
Creating a Family Wellness Space
The refurbishment was about more than simply updating the appearance of the swimming pool.
The aim was to create an environment that felt like an extension of the family home: somewhere that could be used for swimming, exercise, family time and relaxation. The combination of large-format porcelain tiling, timber panelling, a contemporary stretch ceiling and carefully designed pool features gives the room a much more sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere.

A Pool Designed Around Family Life
Completed in approximately eight weeks, the refurbishment has completely transformed the original indoor swimming pool.
The dated pool has been replaced with a contemporary, family-focused environment that combines practicality with luxury. The new pool steps and varying depths make the space more suitable for a growing family, while the combination of contemporary tiling, feature wall finishes, timber panelling and a stretch ceiling creates a sophisticated backdrop to the pool.
